Study of Static and Dynamic Properties of Sand under Low Stress Compression

The aim of this work was to investigate a wide range grain sizes sand in the pre-yield regime during compression through combined study ultrasound (US) wave speed and acoustic emission (AE). specific performed using modified oedometer uniaxial experimental set-ups. studied samples were natural dune (poorly graded on poorly (SP) index) as well its three extracted fractions follows: 2.36–0.6 mm, 0.6–0.3 mm 0.3–0.075 mm. maximum stress experiments <150 kPa, while experiments, it <400 kPa. Each sample loaded measuring US pressure (P) AE at each loading stage. results show that stiffer soil is, higher value P measured, resulting similar velocity values achieved much lower applied comparison with tests. Regarding results, is seen level causing more friction between particles, events there are their movement. following parameters shown be most sensitive increase: number hits signals’ energy.
